May, 2015: David is a 2015 recipient of the Brock University Chancellor’s Chair for Teaching Excellence award.

April, 2015: David is awarded an eLearning Initiative grant from Brock University.

July, 2014: David begins a three year term as Director of the Centre for Digital Humanities.

May, 2013: David is the 2013 recipient of the Brock University Faculty of Education Award for Excellence in Teaching.

April, 2012: David publishes an monograph titled "The Student Filmmaker: Enhancing Literacy Skills through Digital Video Production" as part of the Ontario Ministry of Education's Research into Practice series.

July, 2013: David begins a one year renewal term as Chair of the Department of Teacher Education.

July, 2011: David is promoted to Full Professor.

September, 2010: David is interviewed for a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) news story on the The National about integrating video games into the elementary school curriculum.

June, 2010: David delivers a convocation address to graduates in Brock's teacher education program. The speech is covered by the St. Catharines Standard newspaper as part of its Brock convocation reporting.

May, 2009: David's sixth book, From Gamer to Game Designer: The Official Far Cry 2 Map Editing Guide, is released.

July, 2009: David begins a three year term as Chair of the Department of Teacher Education.

March, 2009: The 7th edition of Elementary Social Studies, a Canadian social studies textbook, co-authored by Professors Ian Wright and David Hutchison is released.

June, 2008: David is interviewed by a number of Canadian TV networks and newspapers on the topic of his book, Playing to Learn: Video Games in the Classroom. TV interviews include: Breakfast Television (CityTV), WebMania (CTV), CHCH-TV, A-Channel London, and Space TV. David is also interviewed by CBC Radio.

December, 2007: David publishes an monograph titled "Drawing on children’s “Sense of Place” as the starting point for teaching social studies and geography," as part of the Ontario Ministry of Education's Research into Practice series.

May, 2007: David's third book, Playing to Learn: Video Games in the Classroom, is released.

April, 2004: David's second book, A Natural History of Place in Education, is published by Teachers College Press.

May, 1998: David's first book, Growing Up Green: Education for Ecological Renewal, is published by Teachers College Press.
