The Canadian Self-Study SIG is a Special Interest Group within the Canadian Association of Teacher Educators which, in turn, is part of CSSE and hold its sessions at the annual CSSE conference. The Canadian Society for the Study of Education is the largest organization of professors, students, researchers and practitioners in education in Canada. CSSE is the major national voice for those who create educational knowledge, prepare teachers and educational leaders, and apply research in the schools, classrooms and institutions of Canada. The Canadian Association for Teacher Education promotes dialogue on teacher education, research and collaboration in this field; includes special interest groups: early childhood education and business teacher educators.


American Educational Research Association (AERA): AERA

Study Special Interest Group: Special Group

The mission of the Self-Study Special Interest Group of AERA is to "act as a forum for educators who work in a wide variety of settings and who are seeking to make substantial contributions related to the theory and practice of teacher education, self-study research design/practice, and the professional development of teacher educators." Although the Self-Study SIG is connected to AERA, it is an international organization with many members in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, the Netherlands and beyond. Resources on this SIG site include: a link to the group's journal, "Studying Teacher Education"; information regarding the annual Castle Conference; access to newsletters, and space to post projects and exhibits. (This website, however, has not be updated recently.) The SSTEP website seems to be in a period of transition-possibly moving towards a home on the AERA website. International Conference on Self-Study of Teacher Education Practices (Castle Conference): Castle Conference

The bi-annual summer Castle Conference in Herstmonceux Castle in the south of England provides an international forum for teacher educators to share examples of self-study in teacher education, to discuss methods and issues in self-study, and to consider the role of self-study in the reform of teacher education.The website listed about includes the proceedings of the conference frm 1996-2006. The deadline for proposals for 2010 is September 14, 2009.

Studying Teacher Education is an internationally refereed journal that welcomes papers from authors who have an interest in research and practice in teaching and teacher education." The journal publishes research on: self-study, "the knowledge base of teaching and teaching about teaching", teacher education, and professional development. Resources on this site include: the "aims and scopes" of the journal, instructions for authors, and free access to a sample journal.


Brock Education: A Journal of Educational Research and Practice Brock Education

Brock Education: A Journal of Educational Research and Practice is a peer-reviewed Canadian journal that publishes two issues a year. Brock Education welcomes papers from authors with an interest in the research and practice of teaching, teacher education and teacher development. The main purpose of the journal is to foster practitioner inquiry (in schools, universities and beyond) and promote a deeper understanding of the experiences of teachers, teacher educators and learners. This open-access journal is a forum for educators and scholars to disseminate their work and make a substantial contribution to the field in Canada and around the world.
