Self - Study of Teacher Education Practices

Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Canadian Association for Teacher Education

S-STEP is a special interest group (SIG) of the Canadian Association for Teacher Education. We were founded in 2005 as a Canadian equivalent of the S-STEP SIG at AERA, which has been a leader in self-study throughout the world. We are teacher educators who wish to our teaching practices as part of our ongoing scholarship. This SIG is a venue for teacher educators who are seeking to make substantial contributions related to the theory and practice of teacher education, self-study research design/practice, and the professional development of teacher educators. We are active at the Canadian Association for Studies in Education conference, where we host a number of sessions. The SIG-sponsored social events and annual business meeting give members opportunities to meet one another and discuss issues of self-study design, publishing, ethics, and best practice. If you care a teacher educator interested in reflection and scholarship on practice, this may be the SIG for you! For more information about CSSE and CATE, go to CSSE and CATE

S-STEP: Think Nationally and Internationally

Although we are a new SIG, we are part of a large international community of teacher educators committed to study teacher education practices. These teacher educators meet annually to present papers and discuss their work at AERA every April. There is an international conference every other year at Herstmonceux Castle in England. A proceedings is published and available online. A journal, Studying Teacher Education edited by John Loughran and Tom Russell, is a forum for scholarship in this area. See On-Line Resources and Links for more information.
